Introduction
The Oremine Narlı properties are at the north and at the south of the village Narlı, which is at the northern coast of the Edremit Gulf and southern slopes of the Kazdağ mountains. The properties are 3-6 km west of Altınoluk, a seaside town, a bit more than 100 km SW of the regional capital, Balıkesir.
Geology
The properties are generally covered by the quartz-serisite schist and gneisses of the basement rocks. At the northeast, the Paleozoic amphibolites, at the southwest, the Neogene volcanoclastic rocks and granites crop out. Near the sea side the Neogene sedimentary rocks and alluvion covers the lowlands.
Ore mineralization
Papazlık Pb-Zn deposit, mined by underground methods until 1980’s is just 1.5 km northwest of Altınoluk and 1 to 5 km east part of the Oremine Properties. The Pb-Zn mineralisation is concentrated in the several carbonate zones which also show a concordant structure within the amphibolites.
Bahçedere gold deposit, another historic mine and has been re-explored by a company is about 10 km east of the Oremine Narlı properties. Here the gold is usually enriched within and the lower parts the carbonate rocks which overlie the basic volcanic and metamorphic rocks of the Karakaya Complex.
Narlı property seems to be rich in Cu mineralisation. During one day prospecting, along the main road, at two localities Cu-rich levels, more than 1% (about 30 cm thick) showing gold anomalies (80 ppb) within the schists and faults filled by some Cu-oxide minerals were identified. These concordant and cutting mineralised zones will be studied by detailed surveys. |
